It is incredible that behind seemingly messy and irregular numbers hides the patterns in data and solutions to many problems. Using statistical methods to analyze data is like solving a puzzle to me. I am currently a senior at the University of XXXX, triple majoring in Economics, Financial Math, and statistics. I chose these three majors because I believed that an economics major provided a venue for applying my statistical learnings. In contrast, a math major complemented my passion with a solid theoretical foundation in quantitative analysis. I hope to be accepted to study for the Master’s Degree in Statistics at XXXX University.

During my junior year, I realized the limitation of simple machine learning algorithms. I became interested in the concept of deep learning and neural network: to allow computers to learn themselves. I finished the book Deep Learning by Ian Goodfellow and started learning deep learning under Professor XXXX's guidance. During the process, I used a neural network mindset to conduct classification on several data sets to detect the picture pattern. I also researched and analyzed the house pricing data in the US from 2016 to 2017. I used random forest imputation to deal with a massive amount of missing data and fit generalized linear models to test for association between the sale price and different house features. Finally, I used a deep learning mindset to predict the log error of Zestimate (a widely used estimated market value for an individual home) and the actual sale price of the house using the data from 2016 to 2017.

Under Professor XXXX's guidance, I also participated in a research project investigating the Chinese stock market during the 2015 stock market crisis. We focused on investors’ margin and short trading behaviors to study their mindsets during the crisis. We also researched and analyzed stock data from ETF 50 and conducted clustering on time series data to find the abnormal company behaviors during the crisis. I am listed as one of the co-authors of the paper, “Dynamics of Boom and Bust: Analysis of Investor Behavior During the 2015 Chinese Stock Market Crash”, in submission to the Journal of Behavioral Finance.

I have experience in R, SQL, Python, MatLab, and Stata. In addition, I am familiar with C, C++, and Mathematica. I am also currently learning SAS.

My previous research compels me to continue research in either the theoretical or applied statistics. As I imagine my career plans today, they include research and consulting regarding statistics. I believe that the master program in Statistics at XXXX University can provide me with an environment where I can improve my knowledge and skills in statistics and help me pursue my career goal.

My name is Dr. XXXX XXXX, DDS, and I am writing this Letter of Recommendation on behalf of XXXX XXXX, which I could not more highly recommend for selection and admission to your DDS Program. I am a General Dentist, and my practice, North Side Dental, is located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I am from Edmonton and received my Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMSc) and my Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree (DDS) from the University of Alberta.

XXXX shadowed me from May through September of 2015. She came to my office every Wednesday and Thursday faithfully. She stayed from 10 am to 5 pm every day, often lasting longer as we found our conversations about dentistry most engaging. We truly enjoyed sharing our dental adventures, professional hopes, and dreams. For almost five months, I had the most practical support I could imagine having every Wednesday and Thursday. Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, I felt her absence and the days were longer, more challenging, and most importantly, not as exciting as the two days when XXXX was by my side. She shadowed me and assisted varying degrees with all dental treatments and procedures, including fillings, root canal treatments, extractions, Invisalign, etc.

XXXX and I are both children at heart, which helped us bond and share many beautiful ideas about ways to deal with children during dental procedures, significantly developmentally and mentally challenged children. This was our focal point and where we both got most excited and learned the most from each other. XXXX stays very involved and engaged with dentistry 24/7, shadowing dentists like myself, attending CDE programs, etc. She is a very dedicated professional and a keen observer; she listens and perseveres. I appreciated, in particular, how she was always punctual, even coming early sometimes.

XXXX cultivated cordial relations with our entire staff, including dental assistants, receptionists, and dental hygienists. She lent a helping hand even around the office. She left because it was her time, quite literally, as her pregnancy was advancing, and it was time for her to return to India to have her baby with the support of her family. After returning to Canada, XXXX moved to Ontario because of her husband's job, and we stay in touch frequently, writing back and forth; she shares her challenges and joys as a volunteer in the Dementia Unit of Dr. XXXX’s Care Center.

I deeply admire XXXX for her compassionate nature and desire to help those in greatest need. It would be a profound pleasure for me to provide further details about the most excellent professional capacity and talent of XXXX for dentistry and her vast potential from my perspective for being an enormous asset to the dental profession; and to the underserved in particular.

Sincerely

My name is Dr. XXXX, and I am an Assistant Professor of Kinesiology in the School of Public Health at the University of XXXX. I have served in this capacity for approximately four years. I am writing this recommendation on behalf of XXXX, a student in my Foundations of Public Health class. Martina came to see me during my office hours, and I enjoyed talking to her. She provided me with some valuable insights in our wide-ranging conversations concerning the literature on women’s health across the lifespan. Martina was a pleasure to have in my classroom. I enjoyed visiting her and appreciated her comments in class discussions due to her tremendous enthusiasm for studying the relationship between maternal health and physical activity/movement.

Martina submitted an exceptionally well-researched project for our class dealing with deprivation amplification which was most exciting and engaging. I would rank Martina among the top 3% of students for her keen writing ability and dedication to research. She has demonstrated fantastic communication skills, humility, diplomacy, and a great team spirit, encouraging and animating her partners when she works in groups. She is especially good at analyzing highly problematic, complex, and controversial situations and challenges in women’s health care in the public arena.

She is well-disciplined and very friendly, with a pleasant personality. I feel extremely confident that she would distinguish herself as a graduate student in Public Health because she goes above and beyond course requirements, putting in a lot of extra research and effort. She perseveres and has great initiative, and is intensely motivated to learn. In her Community Comparison Project, she explored complex ways in which the income level of a comparatively impoverished community is related to unhealthy diets and lack of physical activity, primarily as a result of insufficient access to health care resources. She demonstrated her ability to come to a detailed understanding of the deprivation amplification theory and to analyze its effects. She has learned how to use a wide range of qualitative research methodologies, including media and discourse analysis, in-depth interviews, focus groups, and ethnographic techniques,

Martina is knowledgeable concerning Chinese vs. Western approaches to prenatal exercise and gestational weight gain. I think we have much value to learn from Chinese medical and holistic approaches to health, and I see Martina is at the forefront of research and practice that incorporates the best of what the Chinese can teach us. She excels at everything having to do with women from diverse social and ethnic backgrounds, their different perceptions of dominant policy and popular media messages as they pertain to motherhood, obesity, and femininity. Martina is well poised to become a great asset to the MPH Program that she decides to attend. It would be a pleasure for me to provide any further detail concerning Martina as an excellent candidate for your MPH Program.

Sincerely,

Thus, I have grown up noticing, appreciating, and celebrating diversity. We moved from Detroit to North Carolina for my first year in high school and built a new life in NC as a family.

I work as an entrepreneur in the area of real estate development. I hope to be selected for your Master’s Degree Program in Real Estate Development at the University of XXXX based on my profound enthusiasm for and dedication to industrial real estate development. I love my home, North Carolina, and especially UXXX. I would be thrilled to return as a graduate student to my home university, where I also completed my undergraduate work in 2000. Since my graduation, I have established a proven track record of sound investment for 17 years, which is why my partners and I are currently in the middle of 3 large-scale development projects.

I hope to learn as much as possible about finance, and international business at UXXX, particularly insofar as these areas engage with real estate. My central professional objective is to take raw, undeveloped land and develop finished real estate products delivered to end users. Along with my investment partners, we are working to establish a sustainable long-term vision that will enable us to take advantage of long-term growth opportunities. Earning the Master’s in Real Estate Development at UXXX will prepare me for my maximum professional contributions in industrial real estate development. In addition to my business and investment interests, I currently serve on the XXXX Planning & Development Committee and do volunteer fundraising for the XXXX Breast Cancer Research Center.

I am applying to UXXX primarily because the XXXX Master’s Degree Program in Real Estate is the most acceptable in my area. I will always be based in North Carolina, and UXXXX is the best place for me to continue to network and broaden my spheres of influence. A degree from UXXXX would also serve as a solid foundation for study in Real Estate Development at the doctoral level.

XXXX is home; I have four children in school, and my businesses and development projects are based here in XX. I do look forward, however, to working with clients from all over the world who are interested in owning, leasing, or renting space. I want to help develop industrial sites and match manufacturing and industrial users according to their real estate needs.

I operate a medical supply business that spans three states and has 110 employees. I have learned a great deal as an entrepreneur building my own business, and I hope that I will have exciting things to contribute to discussions with my peers in and out of the classroom. I look at real estate through the lens of a business owner and developer who has devoted his professional life to cultivating understanding and an experienced eye for real estate trends and developments, especially in XXXX. I have a great passion for real estate, and I now look forward to orienting my career almost exclusively along the track of industrial real estate development in the US Southeast.

I speak, read, and write Arabic as well as English. I also speak Spanish and French on basic conversational levels. Much of this has to do with the fact that, when I was not studying or working, I have spent my adult life traveling, which has helped me to keep up my language skills and, at the same time that I have enhanced my understanding and appreciation of international relations, especially commerce.

I am a mountain climber, and most of my travels have ended, taking me all over the world, from the USA and Canada to most of the Arab Middle East and Western Europe, along with Russia and Turkey. I have also climbed mountains in Central as well as South America. In Africa, I have visited Sudan, Morocco, Tanzania, and Zanzibar, and in Asia, Singapore, and Malaysia.

I thank you for considering my application to your distinguished MS Program in Real Estate Development at UXXX.

I hope very much to be selected for admission to the particularly distinguished MSC Program in Occupational Therapy at XXXX University because I would simply love to live in Scotland and I see XXXX as the finest OT Masters Program in the British Isles. A young Canadian woman, I want to remain in the UK but cross the ocean to study. I could not be more passionately engaged with the field of Occupational Therapy or more enthused about the prospect of earning my Masters in OT at XXXX University.

First, I earned my diploma as a Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant (April 2015) and will graduate with my Bachelor’s Degree in Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies this coming April of 2017 at the University of XXXX. Throughout my undergraduate studies I have discovered a passion for working in inclusive education. I hope to make my major contribution as an OT professional in this area, the promotion of inclusive education. I currently work in an early intervention school for children with disabilities as an occupational therapy/physiotherapy assistant. I have also worked in facilities following a more medical model of disability, such as hospitals and physio-therapy clinics.

For me, inclusion is the central moral and social principle that guides my intellectual focus and professional aspirations. I look forward to many decades to come as an OT professional and an advocate for inclusion, working to empower people with special challenges to excel and to take their rightful place in society alongside the rest of us. I am a firm believer that physical and developmental challenges must be met through education. I seek the opportunity to spend a professional lifetime giving my all to bridging the gap between simple integration, on the one hand, and meaningful inclusion on the other.

I have never had the opportunity to travel much outside of Canada, always living at home near my family. While I appreciate my roots, I am now 21 years old and I feel strongly that it is time for me to spread my wings and take flight as a human being. The other side of the Atlantic was my first idea. My special dream is to study at an ultra-modern university such as Queen Margaret, in the historical setting of Edinburgh the cultural epicenter of Scotland and its link to the world. I have a coworker who earned her degree at XXXX and her stories of those years have greatly sparked my curiosity and yearning for precisely that kind of experience.

I find everything about Queen Margaret compelling, as well as Edinburgh more generally speaking. I have always been rather shy and I am convinced that studying in Edinburgh is precisely what I need, to break out of my comfort zone and learn to learn to think and feel with the fullest levels of independence and creativity.

My studies have changed the way that I look at disability. I no longer see my students as “impaired” or “disabled”, but, rather, as having a variety of abilities that require them to complete everyday tasks in certain ways. There is no standard, no bar; the only thing that is relevant is capacity to improve. I am driven to demonstrate how, in the presence of great passion and drive, anything is possible.

I thank you for your consideration of my application to OT at XXXX.

tag:statementofpurposewriter.com,2018-12-11:/entries/1770352MRED, Indian Sikh Real Estate Development Professional2018-12-11T02:56:00-08:002022-07-22T13:24:51-07:00
Being accepted to and completing XXXX University’s Masters in Real Estate Development Program will be the crowning achievement of my life. After earning my bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 2010, I accepted a position with XXXX Capital Group in New York as an Analyst in the Equity Research Division. Next, I was introduced to Real Estate Development while working for a Pharmaceutical company in my native India for one year. From 11/14-7/16, I served as Managing Director for a major pharmaceutical company in Reno, Nevada. My professional dreams for the future are in Real Estate Development: XXXX is my first choice.

After my position with XXXX, I had to return to my native India for visa reasons, where I accepted a job with a significant Indian pharmacy chain, XXXX. I was assigned to the task of acquiring commercial real estate and helping to develop models for the development of our new retail outlets. I became addicted to the sheer synergy and power of real estate development. I found myself reading as much as I could in this area, even in my free time: metrics, populations, per-capita income, foot traffic, development plans of city governments and municipal councils, etc. During my tenure with this company, 1/12-11/14, I was instrumental in setting up 154 new stores throughout the northern regions of India.

As a real estate professional, I plan to integrate my Sikh culture and faith into my career primarily through my volunteer work with Sikh-affiliated and inspired non-profit organizations, many of them based in New York. There is a sizeable Sikh presence at XXXX University, with active networks contributing to our faith’s mission worldwide. I have been happening for years as a volunteer, helping poor people obtain free primary dental care and eye surgeries, for example, and I hope to incrementally give more and more of my time to my work with Sikh-related charitable initiatives as my career progresses, perhaps moving into leadership roles in some of these organizations. I am already advising several Sikh institutions concerning their real estate investments.

After completing your cutting-edge MRED Program at XXXX, I plan to go to work for a real estate investment firm in NYC, the epicenter of world capital markets. At the same time, I want to begin a lifetime engagement with the CSR initiatives of significant real estate firms, creating platforms to encourage their levels of contribution to disaster relief and hunger-fighting efforts worldwide. At some point, I hope to launch my development firm and create my team of professionals, probably based in my native Dubai, where I was born and raised, watching a miraculous and thoroughgoing transformation of our city’s real estate market throughout my lifetime. I am especially keen to learn all that I can at Columbia about ‘construction space’ and variables, contributing to the expanding creativity of real estate development models. In particular, I look forward to studying global real estate investment trends under Professor XXXX.

Thank you for considering my application to your distinguished Master’s Degree Program in Real Estate Development at XXXX University.

I see your program as the finest of its kind online, and studying with this flexibility will enable me to continue to devote myself full time to my company as a real estate professional at the same time that I work towards completion of your program, putting what I am learning to excellent use every day.

XXXX is my first choice for graduate school because of the sheer your online program'scellence and flexibility of your solid and extensive background in real estate, coupled with my intense drive towards the achievement of excellence and success, both professionally and academically, I am convinced that I will be able to distinguish myself in your program, especially since I am a master at Excel and making rapid progress with Argus as well.

Alongside my professional experience, my undergraduate studies have also prepared me well for Real Estate at XXXX: creating pro forma statements, discount cash flow, and other,r financial models, and developing an advanced understanding of complex tools such as IRR lookback and preferred return models. I always went that extra mile as a student. When the professor only required a multi-family and office model, I would take the liberty to develop a model for condominium/residential community sales, complete with mortgage spreadsheets that included sensitivity analyses.

I have a voracious appetite for real estate: thus, m. Thusdiate's short-term goal is to be accepted to Real Estate at XXXX and come to a much better understanding of more complex financial models such as the 3-tiered equity waterfall models; and develop a better grasp on the inner workings of private equity and REITS, especially with respconcerningrivate partnerships with local governments. I hope to understand better income. Housing Tax Credits operate as well as funding for environmental cleanup sites. In particular, I want to learn about everything ‘green,’ sustainable, and socially responsible. Earning the Master’s Degree at XXXX will provide me with the finest education possible for a lifetime of service as a real estate developer and a leader in my community.

My responsibility and commitment to community are ultimately grounded in the Confucian upbringing of my parents, both raised in China. Even though and raised in California, my parents are first-generation immigrants from China has been instrumental in establishing my identity and sense of social cohesion and service. I speak Cantonese and Mandarin fluently, which has helped me enormously in my career in Real Estate due to the large numbers of Asians, especially Chinese immigrants, that have,e settled on the West Coast of the USA.

I look forward to continuing to develop a special outreach to Chinese and Chinese-American clients, taking great pride in my Chinese sensitivity, and providing real estate services that are specially tailored to Chinese clients.

I have been workworkeddian Real Estate in Los Angeles for over a year and have been promoted from Development Associate to Project Manager. XXXX University’s Masters in Real Estate Program is the most acceptable online program available, and earn, in my Master’s at XXXX will allow me to study at my own pace while I. At the same time,ue in my full-time position with XXXX. My long-term goal is to positively contribute to unity and its surroundings, revitalizing impoverished neighborhoods through improved infrastructure and the creatcreatingrtunities. Actual es fully dedicated to philanthropy and empowering the community. As a real estate developer who aspires to become a successful entrepreneur, I hope to serve on our City Council and oversee community development projects. My city, XXXX, California, has rapid access to no less than three significant freeways. Thus we are well positioned to become a development hub for the entire XXXX Valley.

I am a Project Manager and I am happy with that title. But I want to earn a Master's Degree in Real Estate at XXXX to learn to become an increasingly sophisticated and creative project manager, especially in terms of making sustainable architecture profitable and environmentally friendly. I look forward to researching the demand for housing and its relation to interest rates, cycles and bubbles, and the growth and decline of urban developments. As Project Manager at XXXX Real Estate, my most recent project was the develdevelopingcre lot in the blighted neighborhood in Azusa, California, building a senior housing facility serving primarily low-income families. I was instrumental in making the concession necessaryconcessionsthe project economically feasible. I have also been instrumental in the landscaping, windows, and solar,r panels; and worked very hard to foster long-term with the local municipal government. Now, with the state-of-the-art education that I will receive at Georgetown, I plan to put my advancing knowledge to good use by putting XXXX, California, and the surrounding area at the forefront of creative real estate development in all of Southern California, revitalizing impoverished neighborhoods through infrastructure renovation and job opportunities.

As Project Manager, I negotiated a $5 million construction loan with lenders, created investment packages for potential equity partners, including g returns and hurdle rates, and delegated with the city to gain incentives for affordable housing development. Though I am not extraordinary in any particular aspect, I am wellunwelllrounded seeing the big picture. I have good neggoodion skills and excel in fostering collaborative relationships with relevant parties.

My family comes from a background in education as owners/homeowners of a private preschool and non-profit after-school program. Through the years I have b, been inspired by how they have touched thousands of lives by empowering children through education. My parents have worked especially hard to help children in lower-income neighborhoods. They have attained subsidies for funding tuition for these families. My father has also been a senior advisor for the city for the past decade.

I have watched my parents rise from the bottom tiers of the economic stratum and struggle through many hardships to realize their dream of opening a private preschool and non-profit Schefter-school program to give children in impoverished neighborhoods what they never had. Growing up, I have watched parents first-hand touching thousands of lives through education and volunteer work. As time passed, passedusiness began to pick up, and our family has had the good fortune to become a little more affluent, now owning and operating several initiatives dedicated to low income-income and senior citizens. Local city officials asked my father to join the City Council as a senior advisor in 2000. Since then, he has participated in numerous non-profit foundations and city meet and ings, advising the mayor and other members with such things as the 10- and 20-year development plans. At home, I would listen with rapt attention to his stories, and I no,w intend to follow in his footsteps in my own way.

Ek to continue with my family tradition of serving to enrich the lives of our community members, especially those in need of a helping hand. The best way to do this is to give my all to a lifetime of development of lower-to-middle-income housing, attaining subsidies for families in need, and mandating in green and/or sustainable development, fostering eco-friendly environments for those in greatest need.

I thank you for considering my application to Real Estate at XXXX.

tag:statementofpurposewriter.com,2018-10-09:/entries/1737053OT Masters, Piano, Kinesiology, French Canadian2018-10-09T10:02:00-07:002022-07-22T12:27:14-07:00
A French Canadian woman now 22, I feel strongly that I am an excellent candidate for selection to a Master’s Degree Program in Occupational Therapy because of my sheer energy and love of life. I play the piano and guitar, sing, swim, and do yoga. Thus, I feel I have unique gifts that bring out the best in children with learning disabilities and resources that help put healthy and satisfying futures within their grasp. I feel incredibly grateful to have found my calling and joy in life: children with learning disabilities and special needs. In particular, I thrive on curriculum development.

Having earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology with a Minor in Psychology, I am focused on movement as a motivator. Earning the Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy is the perfect choice for me to learn how to make my maximum contribution to small children who still have a chance, an open window slipping closed all too rapidly for too many of them. I look forward to a long professional lifetime of reflection on how to most effectively incorporate a broad range of teaching activities into educational programs for my students; many focused on the gifts that I want to share, especially piano, singing, and most of all swimming.

In Kinesiology, I learned a great deal about motor skill development, anatomy, athletic injuries, and how to assess the typical story of children. I earned my degree at the same time that I gained extensive and invaluable hands-on experience. My classes dealing with physical activity and motor development introduced me to various physical conditions and what typical result looks like at different ages. All my courses have taught me to focus on what an individual can rather than cannot do. I believe that I am ready for the rigors of graduate school in OT because of my extensive preparation for excellence.

In addition to playing the piano for 15 years, I have been involved in a variety of sports and played on several athletic teams, and earned my National Lifeguard Certification. My devotion to piano and swimming helped me to appreciate dedication itself. My team sports have helped me to understand the importance of collaboration and how important a community is for success. Between my hobbies and studies, I have learned how to manage my time effectively and how to maintain a balanced lifestyle for a healthy mind. I also see networking as critical to success, and I continue cultivating many vital connections in the health care field that will serve me well in OT.

My ideal position in OT will be at a hospital or a health center, although I would like to have my practice someday. My professional experiences up to this point, volunteer and professional, have helped me acquire a well-rounded educational foundation that is well suited for a career in occupational health and therapy. From a very young age, I have wanted to go into health care, and OT is the right choice to maximize the positive impact I can have on the life of another human being. Shadowing several occupational therapists has confirmed that my personality is a good fit for this profession.

As a participant in the Sensory Motor Instructional Leadership Experience at XXXX University, I got my first chance to volunteer with younger children with varying disabilities. My youngest partner on the autism spectrum was a very visual learner, so I focused on visual aids that helped him to process information. As a volunteer at XXXX Independent Living Program, I also learned a great deal about young people with physical disabilities – working alongside Occupational therapists who I found most inspiring, their methods and adaptive tools.

My volunteer work at XXXX Hospital in Toronto has instilled in me a passion for facilitating the healing process through therapeutic play interventions while advocating for the psychosocial needs of children and families in collaboration with other health care professionals.

Often, I play the role of a physiotherapist, programming daily exercises and strengths to help loosen up joints and muscles. I also perform work similar to an OT: adaptive strategies, developmental activities, interaction ideas, and stimulation. I was serving as an instructor at XXXX has taught me how to assess a child’s current level of ability in several areas by looking at their gross and fine motor movements by implementing play-based physical activities.

For the past two years, I have also volunteered with seniors, led exercises in fall prevention programs at health centers, and worked alongside an Occupational therapist. I have learned how to modify practices for the appropriate level. During XXXX’s Active Aging program, for example, I led weekly exercises for older adults in in-group and also one-on-one. I would describe none of the above activities as easy, but the reward is in the challenge.

Most of all, I want to savor the experience of graduate school and learn as much as I can, so I prefer a two-year program. Among 2-year programs, XXXX is definitely the best. I also particularly appreciate the way that you have incorporated the Capstone project as an integral part of your curriculum. I also see your program as especially strong in both of my areas of principal interest, Finance and Investments on the one hand, and International Real Estate on the other. I appreciate the vast resources of XXXX and, finally, I find myself drawn to the strength and development of your alumni network.

A licensed professional structural engineer and quantity surveyor, I am also a charted national construction manager in my native China. I love running and won 4th place in a semi-marathon in the Bahamas this year, 2015. I am skilled in painting and have twice won a gold prize in the Chinese national painting competition. I also play violin and took part in several performances in college. Well travelled and well read, I have spent the past several years working in the Caribbean, a market that I look forward to cultivating for many decades to come, in addition to my native China. I have visited the USA almost a dozen times, always combining business with a little pleasure, as well as Panama, Cuba, and Russia.

Graduating in the top 3% of my class in Civil Engineering earned me a full scholarship for my Masters which I completed in 2011. The highlight of my graduate experience was serving as a Teaching Assistant for the course “Civil Engineering Construction”. I hope to bring to your program extensive professional experience to complement my formal academic preparation. My first position after graduation was with the China State Construction Engineering Corp.; this experience helped me to understand many of the central challenges facing construction engineering in overseas projects. Next, I went to work for its American subsidiary, the China Construction America Company in the Bahamas, where I remain employed in project management and real estate development.

In my first year as a professional, still in China, I provided technical support for overseas projects in Asia and as far away as Africa and the Middle East, including the construction of the 970-foot high AL HIKMA building in Dubai. Beginning as a project engineer, I was soon promoted to project management. I was involved in a series of structural designs and construction projects, ranging from <s>a</s> newly-built high rise buildings to the retrofitting of a 150-year old historical property in Shanghai. I strongly believe that the retrofitting and renovation of property will boom in the future; thus I chose the post-installed anchor system as my research topic. My research, sponsored by the Hilti Corp., was published in a top national journal. In 2001, I began working on the Baha Mar resort project in Nassau, Bahamas as a project manager. I had the honor of working in collaboration with many talented developers, architects, engineers, lawyers and government officials from a total of 19 countries.

I have supervised the costs of work packages amounting to $240 million and negotiated contracts amounting to US$140 million in the past 9 months alone and I have been entrusted with this responsibility because of my solid technical background and advanced vision of commercial real estate development. I was awarded the Outstanding Employee of the Year Award in 2012 and I have led teams in the management of three hotel towers and large parts of a casino with vast retail areas, a total area of 1.1 million SF. My responsibilities included scheduling, contract negotiation, procurement, cost control, construction supervision and quality assurance. My team guided over 120 construction laborers working alongside fit-out and MEP teams 12 hours a day for 14 months and completed structure and envelope work packages as scheduled.

Highly accomplished at cross-team and cross-discipline orchestration, I see the development of my leadership qualities as a lifelong process. The sheer excellence of your interdisciplinary, highly focused program at XXXX makes it the best fit for my interests, especially because of your special strengths in the areas of finance, investments, global capital markets, and project delivery methods.

I thank you for considering my application to your competitive program.

Since childhood, studying and learning have been my lifelong pursuit. My mother was a primary school teacher and instilled in us a reading culture that nurtured the development of my inquiring mind and the desire for a career in academia. I am challenged by new learning opportunities and eager to apply my knowledge to help Nigerian society develop. I keenly look forward to paying particular attention throughout my career to women and girls, eventually helping to encourage girls throughout Africa to pursue science, technology, and engineering – concerning food production and a host of other areas.

During my volunteer work at an orphanage, I realized the importance of ensuring an adequate dietary intake to maintain one’s health. As a Food Scientist, I stand at the intersection of human health and the nutritional quality of foods. Preliminary work during my MSc investigating the beneficial effects of epicatechin, a flavanol in milk chocolate, on vascular health has provided a clear foundation for pursuing additional research in this area. As a Ph.D. student, I would now like to explore the effect of dietary flavonoids and Vitamin D supplementation on vascular functions and cardiovascular risk markers. Fruits and vegetables are critical components of the Nigerian diet and subsequently represent an invaluable means of improving the cardiovascular health of the Nigerian population. I firmly believe that working with the Richardson Center for Functional Foods and the Nu- nutraceuticals research team will provide me with the optimal opportunity to carry out this research using the state-of-the-art facilities at the University of Manitoba. Following my Ph.D., I wish to return to Nigeria with a firm science background that will enable me to continue research in nutrition and health. My central passion and long-term goal are to do everything I can to improve the health of the popular classes of Nigerian people through adequate nutrition and public health education about food.

Some of the challenges faced as a scientist in Nigeria include limited research facilities and funding for human intervention trials and the demoralization that results from an emphasis by institutions on the publication of papers with little regard for the quality of research conducted. Though more subtle than before, gender discrimination continues to exist. This may be a positive motivator for some female scientists and science students, but it can be demoralizing and counterproductive for others. In Nigeria in 2013, only 19% and 16% of science and engineering posts were occupied by women (Aderemi et al., 2013). There are also anecdotal reports of a tendency for women, as opposed to their male counterparts, to be viewed as incompetent except for those who are especially highly qualified. The funding for my MSc was made possible by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Nigeria. However, changes in exchange rates necessitated significant personal supplementation towards the end of the program.

Consequently, gaining the Schlumberger Faculty of the Future Scholarship is vital for earning my Ph.D. since my current monthly salary is little more than 100 US dollars per week. Earning the Ph.D. at XXXX will allow me to explore my capabilities and develop transferable skills through participation in conferences, training, and publications. Working on original, highly creative research inspired by the novel ideas and intellectual development to which I will be exposed. My Ph.D. research experience will enable me to become an innovative researcher focused on carrying out high-quality research in Nigeria and will also allow me to inspire female students at my home university to pursue a career in science.

My love of mathematics and its practical applications resulted in a decision to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. However, in my first year, I read the book ‘Out of Control’ by Kevin Kelly and became very interested in the theory of ‘Big Data and its practical applications. Subsequently, I was allowed to intern for six months with the largest privately owned Chinese bank and worked on several projects which involved exposure to various statistical techniques and discovered that I had a natural facility to quickly grasp and apply these to provide valuable information to the bank, I also came to understand that the thoughtful application of Statistics has the potential to affect almost every area of people’s lives beneficially. By the time I transferred from Lanzhou Jiaotong University to Iowa State in June 2014, I had decided to pursue the study of Analytical Statistics at the highest level possible and considered this to be the best decision in my academic life.

I have excelled in my bachelor's degree program with what I consider to be a creditable GPA of 3.86/4. My goal is to join the Master’s program to develop and acquire advanced skills and knowledge to lead a team of financial analysts to build models and strategies to identify and solve functional ‘hard problems.’

I believe that the program is the ideal one to equip me to meet my professional goals because of its emphasis on practical and career preparation. I am particularly drawn by the design of the team-based and real-life applications of the Capstone project. I am sure that my academic background and practical experience will enable me to ‘add value’ during the program and especially when collaborating on the Capstone project. I enjoy working as a team member and am ready to lead when the opportunity arises.

I am particularly interested in Computational Statistics, Data Visualization, and Stochastic Processes related to Finance. I hope it may be possible to assist in research on one or more of these topics during the program.

As the top-ranking Stats/Math major, I have worked as an Academic Peer Adviser since May 2015 in the University’s Mathematics and Statistics Department. To date, I have assisted 30 first-year students by scheduling academic planning, referral of resources, and providing educational and emotional support. This work has been very fulfilling, and I find that giving explanations is an excellent way to discover new insights into techniques and methods. I hope it may be possible to assist bachelor's degree students as part of the Master’s program.

Since moving to the US, I have happily and successfully adjusted to the new culture and educational environment. I have studied alongside, socialized with, and mentored people from many ethnic and social backgrounds and have greatly enjoyed doing so. I look forward to extending these experiences within the Master’s program and sharing the fruits of our various specialist studies and experiences.

To summarize, I am an academically able student with a high commitment and diligence to my work. I have an academic background and professional experience that is highly relevant to the program, and, most importantly, I have a genuine passion for my statistics. I can assure the reader that I shall apply myself with great enthusiasm to the program to excel rather than merely succeed.

Thank you for considering my application.

My goal in pursuing a Master’s degree at XXU is to acquire the high-level skills and knowledge which will enable me to assist in providing practical solutions to the problems related to the feeding of those living in the less developed economy, especially in Africa. My long-term career goal is to lead a research proprojectsn a private company or NGO to provide reliable, affordable, and nutritious foods to the economically deprived.

I am a fully bicultural Kenyan-American and find that the easy availability of a wide variety of high-quality, long-life food is taken for granted by many in the ‘first world countries’ but having been raised in Kenya, I have witnessed the difficulties arising in less advanced economies. Dependence on a narrow range of foodstuffs that often spoil very quickly and irregularity of quality and supply are examples of the many reasons people suffer food insecurity in Africa. From my earliest years, I intended to ‘makedifferencece’ rather than ‘makelivingng.’ When I saw the abundance here in the US and contrasted this situation with that in Kenya, I resolved to study Food Science and use the knowledge acquired to make a difference for the benefit of those living with food insecurity, primarily in Africa but also in developed food economies.

I have worked in various settings in various to,les and this experience, along with my undergraduate studieprovideside an excellent basis for me to ‘value’ the program and benefit from it. I look forward to sharing the fruits of my own life, academic, and work experience and being friendly and profiting from the experiences of my fellow students.

The program is my first choice because now that the Institute of Food Technologists has recognized the program as the premiere in the US. Several of my colleagues are currently enrolled and recommend the program as highly challenging but providing a very supportive academic environment and research opportunities and as one being at the ‘cuttiedgege’ of work in this field. The online program will also enable me to pursue my employment without interruption and apply what I learn in today's day-to-day work.

My general area of interest is Food Chemistry because it is an area in which I feel that opportunities to meet my overall goals can be met. Specifically, I would like to develop my understanding of the relationship between the structure of food molecules and their functional properties to improve the nutritional aspect of foods. I hope that it might be possible to assist in a related research project within the program.

I am aware that research, especially research leadership, calls for specific auniquemon characteristics such as determination, patience, ability to approach problems with creativity and originality, and the ability to communicate innovative ideas with wpreciseecis ion and high-level planning skills. I believe that I have demonstrated these characteristics in my work and research to date and intend to develop them to the very best of my potential through my participation in the program and present and future work.

To summarize, I consider myself a highly motivated, well-qualified applicant who will bring valuable insights to the program. I can assure the reader of enthusiastic and diligent participation in the program if selected and a determination to excel rather than merely succeed.

Thank you for considering my application.

For many years now, my mother and I have worked together as volunteers every Sunday, most of the day, teaching children and young people that were orphaned or abandoned. My mother teaches them mostly how to make and maintain their clothes and accessories, while I teach English, Math, and Science. Doing this without fail every Sunday throughout our lives highlights the nature of our character and dedication to those most vulnerable and in need among us. I see this as the lifelong strength I will continuously pursue and the principal motivation and guiding light for my application to the University of XXXX, where I seek to earn a Ph.D. Degree in Educational Technology, always to help those who need special attention due to their less fortunate life circumstances. My mother and I are Indian women. The non-profit organization that we work with is named Karma. I am also deeply interested in spirituality, particularly concerning my Indian traditions, and San Francisco is an ideal location to learn and share in this area as well since there is a lot of engagement with Indian spirituality in the Bay Area, something which I feel enormously strengthens and enhances my abilities as an educator.

From my mother, the artist, I get more of my heart, and more of my brain has come from my father, the engineer who is a regional manager at India’s ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation). I earned a B.Tech in Interior Design at the Central Environment Planning and Technology College. I was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering from the Technical Education Board of the VPMP Polytechnic in 2006. In the following years, I earned my Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering and served as a Teaching Assistant at the Government Engineering College.

I am profoundly excited by the prospect of earning my Doctorate in Educational Technology at the University of XXXX because I seek a world-class foundation in research and pedagogy for engineers - with particular attention to the virtual classroom. Your program is the optimal springboard to launch my career dedicated to eradicating boundaries in academic learning, bridging great distances efficiently and effectively even in the face of limited resources. In particular, I want to learn everything I can about 3D computer-based simulations for K-12 applications, enabling students to visualize and understand complex physics phenomena. I feel strongly that such simulations have great potential for testing concepts and prototypes comparatively inexpensively, and I could not be more excited at the prospect of having an opportunity to develop my ideas in this area at the University of San Francisco.

I have happily studied, worked, and socialized with people of different cultural backgrounds. As an experienced team player and leader, I take pride in my sense of humor and in keeping things lively, especially when teaching. A very well-qualified engineer, I believe I have demonstrated that I can meet the rigorous academic demands of your program. I am a highly enthusiastic and effective teacher of pure science and engineering subjects with optimum use of technological advancement. I have a proven skill set and experience in undertaking and leading research projects. My main recommendation, however, is my sheer love of engineering and a great desire to improve as many lives as possible through its practical application, teaching others to love research in the physical sciences as I do.

At the center of my future stands the virtual classroom. I could not be more enamored with the potential of technology to teach new generations of students, particularly in my native India, to learn to love and explore cutting-edge technologies, even students from families of very modest resources that cannot afford to send their children to prestigious engineering schools. Ultimately, I look forward to teaching the leaders in educational technology of tomorrow, especially concerning the needs and challenges confronted by countries in the Developing World. I look forward to many decades to come of working closely with software companies in educational technologies. I anticipate that my work in Educational Technology will always have a specific Indian flavor since the unique characteristics of Indian culture inform every aspect of my being. This is especially true about 'spiritual samskara and its relationship to children's education, even in the womb. I am experienced and engaged with the spirituality of pregnancy and its role in determining the characteristics of children. This is referred to as 'Graph samskara in India. I look forward to researching that studies groups of parents with a vision of the positive characteristics they seek to cultivate in their unborn child. My mother practiced 'Graph samskara with my little sister, so my family is very supportive of this line of research, sharing my joy. My sister was born with unique characteristics and was already chanting in Sanskrit at 2. I thank you for considering my application to the University of XXXX.

I hope to be selected for your distinguished Master’s Degree program in Occupational Therapy based on my intense passion for helping those who most need my assistance, along with my extensive experience with the developmentally disabled. Currently a nanny for a toddler with Downs Syndrome, I am also experienced in caring for and educating children with cerebral palsy, blindness, and non-verbal autism. My intellectual engagement with Autism, in particular, is rapidly ascending, and I feel increasingly confident that it is in this area where I will make my mark professionally in research and practice.

I have served as a nanny in Denmark, Germany and South Africa, lived, worked, and studied for one year in Australia, and have escaped to Jamaica or Mexico for the beach and to practice my Spanish. Most of all, I adore children and want to devote my life to changing their lives for the better, especially getting off to an early start when a helping hand is most effective: with children. I look forward to a long life helping families realize that having a child/family member with special needs is a blessing to be enjoyed, savored, and made the most of, especially for children. My optimism is sustained by a positive attitude and a creative tool kit of resources and ingenuity that I want to share with others to enhance the quality of the life of special needs children and their families. Whoever comes to see me as a patient: I want to improve their world. I want them to succeed in whatever they want to do and find a way to help them realize their goals when they come to see me. As an OT Professional, I hope to start my Pediatric private practice someday. I also plan to create a support group for siblings of children with special needs and pursue research in this area. I want to help advocate for special needs individuals and change how society sees special needs people, assisting communities in understanding better and appreciating the value of our special needs members and the precious things they can teach us as they learn.

My research interests are focused on autism, the success rate of ABA therapy, and discrete trial training, as well as helping clients who have experienced strokes or other neurological incidents (paraplegic, etc.) with a variety of tasks, including driving (inventing technology that allows those who have limited physical ability to drive a vehicle). I look forward to, at some point, creating my facility for special needs individuals. Many parents of special needs kids/teenagers have communicated with me the worry and fear they feel when thinking about where their child will end up after they can no longer care for them. This has motivated me to think creatively about the institution or foundation that I would like to develop in the future, where special needs people can live as independently as possible and enjoy community support at the same time, many with jobs in the community and support as needed for help with budging/paying bills, grocery shopping, etc. Parents want their children to be happy, protected and loved. I think having this kind of foundation would help parents of special needs patients that their children will be cared for and comfortable, staying occupied and engaged with the community while maximizing control over their own lives.

I have a little brother with Downs Syndrome. Since I was 11 when he was born, I helped raise him along with my two other younger siblings. He changed my world and helped me to develop and cultivate a vast heart. I have learned that what makes me the happiest is doing things for other people. I have empathy and understand where parents and families come from when they come in exhausted, worn out, and losing hope. I have lived it first-hand. I want these families to know it gets better; it's not an easy road, but it's not the end, only the beginning.

I worked one-on-one with a 15-year-old boy who was nonverbal with autism for 2.5 years in college through a non-profit organization. Hunter soon became my best friend since I worked with him every day. The bittersweet character of my feelings when he passed away a month after I graduated from college is beyond words and will always continue to inspire me each day I go forward. Becoming an OT professional was an idea that first occurred to me primarily due to my unique needs brother. My love for Hunter and the joy I found in his company confirmed and amplified my dedication to Occupational Therapy. After Hunter, I worked with a teenager with Autism and tuber sclerosis. Since she had a feeding tube, I began devoting more and more time to exploring issues and ideas in this area.

I also spent a year in Australia living and working with an 11-year-old girl with cerebral palsy who was also blind (Abby). Her father had quadriplegia. They became my second family and amazed me every day with their great strength and perseverance. My host mom is about to visit me in the U.S. When living with them, I helped Abby and her twin sister (who was mildly developmentally delayed) get ready for school in the mornings and their nightly and weekend routines. I spend almost every day with a 2.5-year-old with Downs Syndrome. I have worked with her for over a year and plan to stick around for another year. I observe and implement her OT, PT, and speech therapy goals. She is amazing. More and more each day, she confirms how much I love my work.

I guess you can say that I have a soft spot in my heart for children and adolescents with special needs. I wish the entire world saw what I see in these kids. I want to make their dreams come actual, no matter how big or small. My brother, David, is 14 and proposes to every pretty girl he meets. He's ready to drive, have a house, a wife, and yes, even kids. And why shouldn't he? Even though I remind him he has a few more years to prepare and still has to finish high school and college, I want to see all these things happen in his life; he deserves it.

Finally, I will also excel at the business side of OT based in part on my passion for organization and time management and the fact that I have already built a babysitting business for visitors to our XXXX NC community, sending college girls to homes of tourists to babysit their children when the parents go out.

I thank you for considering my application.

I am especially attracted to the idea of weekend classes. I have gotten to know students from the XXXX who graduated as extraordinary professionals and professional role models.

New York City is my home. I recently visited your new East Greenwich campus and was most impressed with the streamlined organization of your campus, offering education at its highest level of development. I also appreciate the breadth and depth of your curriculum, and I am hungry to get back to full-time study and immerse myself fully in my greatest passion: Occupational Therapy.

I also very much respect the stated mission of the XXXX, and I feel strongly that I share this same mission of service to those who most need our help. I excel through continued hard work and self-improvement, each day asking myself what I can do to improve the well-being of my clients and foment teamwork among my colleagues. I have a can-do attitude and I persevere.

I look forward to devoting many decades to come educating about wellness and helping my clients to live life to its fullest despite their particular limitations and hurdles.

I came to America from Pakistan when I was 18 years old. Now 25 and a highly dedicated COTA who could not be more passionate about his work, I made the honor roll in high school despite the language gap I had to overcome and twice made the Dean’s List in college. I enjoy helping my younger brothers and sister with homework and academic-related projects. I help my elderly neighbor with grocery shopping, and I do whatever I can to satisfy all of my neighbors when it comes to my attention that they are somehow in need.

I look forward to contributing to the diversity of your program at XXXX as a Pakistani, a Muslim man, and a multilingual OT professional of tomorrow who often currently works in Hindi or Urdu in addition to English and looks forward to developing special outreach as an OT professional to the many speakers of these languages in the NYC area. I also encourage awareness of the importance of Occupational Therapy back home in Pakistan, where there is great need but not yet much awareness.

I have very much enjoyed over the last few years working with clients that have diverse diagnoses. I have found special joy working with CVA and spinal cord injury patients. Every night I go to sleep with the intense satisfaction of having helped people. In order to maximize my contribution in the future, I intend to devote a lifetime to the advances in technology that are most useful for OT.

I thank you for considering my application to the XXXX.

Although my MBA is from XXXX, which provides its students with one of the best foundations in the business in the world, to accomplish my goal of providing my clients with the big picture and to enhance my understanding of directions and business trends, I feel strongly that I need to compliment my MBA with a second Master’s Degree in Economics. The University of XXXX is my first choice not only because of the sheer excellence of your program but also the fact that your location is ideal under my present circumstances.

I am very keen to use the ten years of business experience I have gained working at such distinguished, cutting-edge companies as XXXX & Company while also earning my MBA at XXXX. My long-term goal, in addition to serving as a consultant, I also hope to go on to earn a Ph.D. Degree in Economics and devote me to a long and productive career in Economics research. This new direction in my career has been prompted by the fact that I enjoy answering philosophical and theoretical questions – I want to learn to understand and work with the big picture.

I earned a Certificate in Economics as an undergraduate after liking my first class so much in this area. Now, I am driven to pursue Economics in graduate school due to my sheer enjoyment of theory. My years as an investment professional required me to use my classroom training in Financial Economics and deepened my interest in the field. Studying Economics as a graduate student will continue to make me much more valuable as an employee.

XXXX attracts me because one of the objectives of the Master of Arts in Economics Degree is to prepare its students for doctoral programs. The school has a strong track record of placements into higher education, and the faculty is actively published in journals of repute. Also, some of my current interests fall within the options available at XXXX: Financial Economics and Global Economics. Finally, I would prefer to pursue a program in LA, where my family currently resides.

My classroom preparation derives from courses I took in college and during my MBA, including International Economics, National Income Analysis, and a foundational Principles of Economics class. My computer science degrees gave me an intermediate proficiency in mathematics and statistics. In all degree programs for which my GPA was calculated, I obtained a cumulative grade of at least 3.0. The MBA was an exception: the GPA was not calculated on the transcript. Also, I prioritized getting a job during a weak economy (2008) and building relationships with my classmates rather than prioritizing my grades during the MBA. I gained experience as a Computer Science graduate research assistant at Stanford and Georgia Tech, where I received hands-on exposure to the lifecycle of peer-reviewed academic research from concept through publication. As a research assistant, I identified problems, proposed, tested, and communicated solutions through oral presentations and documents.

I thank you for considering my application to XXXX.

Even though I was born and raised in San Francisco, which has a lot to offer culturally and economically, I have fallen in love with NYC. XXXX not only has what I see as the most exemplary Real Estate Master’s Degree Program in New York, but its location could not be more perfect. New York real estate is my passion, and the Schack Institute of Real Estate is quintessentially New York for me. As a real estate professional, I plan to make XXXX my home base for decades. As a result, I seek to learn from professors steeped in real estate and New York real estate.

With two grandparents, two uncles, and one aunt in the real estate business, I was exposed early on in a sustained fashion to talk about real estate; the excitement that so much of my family felt over the rapid expansion of the real estate market in San Francisco was highly contagious, the opportunities, the challenges, the extremely dynamic and competitive nature of the industry in SF. As a result, it is not difficult for me to understand why it is that I, too, seek to become a top-notch real estate professional. Sometimes, I feel it is in my genetic code, mainly because of my grandparents. Nothing excites me more, and no language inspires me with such creativity, passion, and purpose, as does the language of real estate.

I see XXXX as the ideal location to learn everything I can about real estate in today’s world with our increasingly interconnected global economy, the factors that impact financial outlooks and consumer confidence, and to develop an increasingly sophisticated and nuanced understanding of these dynamics. I could not be more confident that the knowledge and experience provided by XXXX will afford me the most competitive edge possible to excel and distinguish myself in our industry.

After earning my Master’s Degree at XXXX, I plan to work with a large development firm as a real estate investment advisor in sales and development. I keenly look forward to a long professional lifetime promoting sustainable architectural projects, especially the construction of green buildings. I am also passionate about social justice issues and sensitive to the moral and social complications that accompany processes of gentrification. I chose to major in philosophy primarily because I am attracted to the marriage of theoretical knowledge and real-world applications. Working for a large development firm will require strong analytical skills and the capacity to process many macro- and micro-issues simultaneously before reaching decisions. I am confident that my undergraduate studies in Philosophy and Ethics will help me to excel in this area as a student at XXXX and beyond.

My experience at XXXX Properties and the XXXX Hotel have also helped to prepare me for excellence as a student at XXXX, ready to take full advantage of the broad diversity of courses offered at XXXX that are immediately relevant to real estate. Working at XXXX has made me very hungry to learn as much as possible, particularly about feasibility analysis on the one hand and negotiation and dispute resolution on the other.

I am most eager to become a very active member of the student body at the Schack Institute, attending the lectures of all guest speakers invited to our program and the numerous events organized by your world-renowned program. Connection and community are vital to me, and I am extensively involved with my XXXX College Alumnae Network, fundraising, event planning, coordination, etc. I seek to cultivate a similar and permanent relationship with the highly career-focused network of alumnae of XXXX.

Being in New York City, the heart of the world’s most closely watched real estate market, there are tons of speakers and events, with numerous opportunities, including a speaker series, breakfast programs, lectures, and panel discussions, to name a few. I plan to put my extensive experience to work concerning diverse forms of data interpretation and real-world applications, bringing a unique perspective to bear on market and investment analyses.

As a result of my experience over the past year-and-a-half working for the XXXX Group, I’ve developed expertise in utilizing demographic data and a better understanding of the microtrends that inform large-scale applications across categories, developing retail expansion strategies for brands like Starbucks-owned Teavana, identifying share-of-market and visibility opportunities for healthcare and QSR brands. This is why I have received two promotions and a raise in this short time.

I thank you for considering my application to study at the center of the real estate world.

My central dream is to become a licensed counselor and to live my professional life to promoting the mental health of my community, particularly the well-being of members of Asian societies. XXU’s Master’s Program in Mental Health Counseling is my first choice for graduate school because of the diversity of XXU and New York City—not just Asians, but Asians in a fully international urban context. XXU is the perfect location for thoroughly examining the unique challenges faced by Asian immigrants to America.

I look forward to spending my professional life engaged in research in this area, mainly designing prevention and treatment programs for depression and anxiety tailored to immigrants from Asian cultures. I will be completing my undergraduate studies in Applied Psychology at XXU. This is coming May 2016, and I could not be more in love with my location in life, city, university, and faculty. I want to stay right where I am to continue to the next professional level as a graduate student.

As a Chinese woman and an international student, I have witnessed several of my Asian friends and acquaintances suffering from what appears to me to be depression and anxiety; one fellow Chinese student in particular who I have gotten close to and who suffers from anxiety and depression refuses to follow my advice and seek professional help because she does not want to be considered a weak person and “lose face.” Another reason I have my heart set on attending your prestigious Master’s Program in Applied Psychology at XXU is the opportunities for fieldwork with Asian populations, especially the underserved. I have a particular passion for the homeless, helping them, protecting them, and serving as an advocate for their interests. Since September 2015, I have been serving as an intern with NYC’s Immigrant Health and Disparities Service, where I have been conducting my independent project in hopes of finding ways to promote follow-up survey rates and client adherence. In short, I am fully engaged with getting people to come to our food bank on a regular and less sporadic basis so that we can play a more significant role in providing nutritious food to those most in need. I have reviewed many journal articles and reached out to many patients, social workers, and people from other clinics to find answers. I eat my meals frequently with homeless people. It is fun to speak Chinese with some of them, helping me to understand their circumstances and challenges better, although my Cantonese is not nearly as good as my mother tongue, Mandarin.

I also very much appreciate the way your program at XXU is famous for placing a very high value on cultural context and efforts to make psychology as culturally specific and appropriate as possible. I have especially enjoyed our bi-weekly peer-group reflections on our fieldwork, sharing our experiences under the supervision of a licensed counselor such as Dr. XXXX, who is especially near and dear to me. Furthermore, my research interests have more in common with your faculty than any other. XXXX's research on the impact of immigration and race on Asian and Asian Americans and her ongoing projects with urban Chinese American and Korean American adolescents and young immigrant adults in New York City, for example. XXXX examines cultural influences on the therapeutic setting, and Lisa Suzuki's research is focused on the development of our understanding of issues in multicultural assessment. I also very much appreciate Dr. XXXX's concern for homeless people with disabilities and Dr. XXXX's research on interventions for military veterans. I have met disabled Asian veterans who are homeless here in NYC. Nowadays, I have my radar up looking for them in particular.

As I see it, the stigma attached to seeking help among Asian sufferers of depression and anxiety is especially pronounced as a direct result of cultural values. I hope to mitigate the adverse effects of this stereotypical thinking by helping to build more open and culturally sensitive community organizations that support our Asian populations tailored to their unique needs and the issues that most affect them. I see a long life ahead of me, working tirelessly to promote multicultural understandings and incorporating them into our analyses of clinical and social psychological phenomena and therapeutic programs. I want to learn, study, and grow concerning the many ways cultural context impacts clinical rapport and therapeutic efficacy.

I hope to work towards a more inclusive description of depression in the specific context of Asian cultures and address body language issues, along with relationship and trust building. As an intern at the Immigrant Health and Cancer Disparities Service, I have found myself interacting with increasing frequency with native speakers of Spanish, so I am now studying this language as well, especially since I find that speaking some Spanish helps me to establish rapport and build trust and confidence with those homeless people for whom this is their first language, an enormous chunk of NYC’s underserved. I thank you for considering my application.

My wish to join this Master’s program is an essential step in enabling me to make that difference. I can think of a few areas of work and research that can provide such general and vital benefits as Biotechnology. I am passionately interested in pursuing an academic and professional career in this work area.

I am particularly excited at the prospect of working in an area where so many exciting and rapid advances have been and are being made. I am very keen to assist in achieving further advances in the field. I hope to work in an area that will enable me to help achieve a situation in which the most advanced biotechnological advances are made as widely available. I also believe that I have the communication skills and personality that provide the potential for me to become a ‘bridge’ to enable physicians to understand and effectively apply innovative treatments as they become available.

I have a solid academic record, having achieved a GPA of 3.85 in my undergraduate studies to date, and I have been the recipient of various literary awards. I believe that my research experience in Biology, coupled with an advanced understanding of statistical techniques, provides me with an excellent basis not merely to succeed but to excel in the program. I have a particular interest in the areas of nanotechnology and tissue regeneration. I hope to assist in research in one or both of these areas of study during the program.

I am also enthusiastic about the business aspect of the program. I cannot claim more than basic knowledge of this study area. Still, I am keen to acquire knowledge and skills in these matters, which I recognize to be essential in the areas of work where graduates are likely to find themselves.

I have happily studied, worked, and socialized with people from many ethnic and social backgrounds. I am regarded as an amiable person who is happy to share my knowledge and skills and who seeks to benefit from those of my colleagues. My volunteer work has provided me with an opportunity to meet and help other students and has given me great satisfaction. I am pretty well traveled and am a native Mandarin speaker with good fluency in English.

I have carefully considered the programs available to me and have concluded that your own is the one that will provide the specific, advanced skills and knowledge that I seek to acquire and will provide the challenging but supportive academic environment that I seek together with a distinguished faculty and outstanding facilities.

To summarize, I believe that my academic record and choices, research experience and the relevance of my work to date to this program provide an excellent basis for me to ‘add value’ to the program for my own benefit and that of my fellow students and I look forward to receiving the benefit of the fruits of their experiences and studies. I promise committed, diligent and enthusiastic participation in the program if selected.

Thank you for considering my application.

I see New York City as the center of the world because my field is international accounting and finance, and NYC is probably the world’s leading center for commerce and exchange. Thus, I feel strongly that I am a better fit at XXU than at any other program. The XXXX School represents the most careful preparation for my central goal of giving my all to a life of public service in auditing. A highly responsible and diligent individual, precise and focused, I am the type of person who is ideal for the professional role of auditor, taking responsibility for the financial interests of third parties, external users, creditors, and investors. My clients can rely on the disclosure I provide for them at the end of the fiscal year.

I am currently studying at the University at Buffalo and will earn my Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting this May 2016. I plan to take the first of four CPA exams this summer following graduation. I fully intend to get my CPA license as soon as possible and pass my CPA exams before graduating from a Master’s program. Once I graduate from XXU, NYC will be the perfect place to look for whole time work with a public accounting firm as an auditor, perhaps doing consulting work within a short time and gaining more experience. My long-term career goal is to become a partner in a prominent and highly reputable international accounting firm.

Two things happened in my college life that greatly reinforced my high level of motivation to excel in accounting. During my junior year, I attended an accounting competition called PwC Challenge; an annual case competition focused on high-level issues to test and improve decision-making skills. Each team comprises five students working as consultants for a fictitious client. We have two weeks to research an assigned accounting issue and develop a 12-minute presentation. I was the team leader, and my team consisted of five international students, none of whom were native speakers in a classroom made up mostly of native speakers. We won third place based on our creative ideas, not our accents. I was pleased to appreciate better the fully international flavor of the language of business and finance. The most critical thing I learned as an undergraduate student is that Accounting need not be boring. It can be as creative and fascinating as our imaginations will allow. I also became a member of an accounting student organization named Beta Alpha Psi, helping with a community service event called Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) every spring semester. This program helps to prepare tax returns for individuals and families with annual incomes below $50,000. While I have logged hundreds if not thousands of hours in the classroom tackling the basics and finer points of accounting, this was the first time that I sat down with a client and helped someone, so it meant the world to me. This experience caused me to reflect very seriously both at the time and since then about the heavy responsibility of an accountant. This experience gave me great confidence and satisfaction when my clients left with smiles on their face. I thank you for considering my application to the XXXX School.
